Day 102: Bar tricks and games

I have been trying to catch up on my sleep all week, knowing I have a big weekend ahead.

So I was planning on staying in tonight, even though it is a Friday, but as with just about everything these days, that changed.

The Pixie sent me a text asking if I wanted to meet her for drinks after work, and I agreed.

I knew we wouldn’t be out late because we were both going to a party and golf tournament the next day, so I thought it was a safe bet.

We decided on a nearby wine bar, where we enjoyed good conversation and of course some vino.

We talked about everything from past boyfriends, to possible new ones, and party planning for upcoming events.

Toward the end of the evening an older woman came in and sat down next to us, and she had a scrabble board.

We didn’t quite know what was going on, but decided she must know what she’s doing because before too long there were 4 guys sitting next to her helping create words.

It was absolutely crazy!  When there was a slight break in the action, she leaned over and told me it was her little conversation starter in the bar.

She’s a member of the wine club there, and she keeps the board at the bar, so when she comes in she can break it out and have a glass and play with whomever is around whether it’s a bartender or another patron.

Later she grabbed 2 corks and showed me a bar trick.  She put one in each hand and then did some cross over trickery moving them to the opposite hands.

I decided to give it a try… several times… all of them unsuccessfully.

The Pixie picked them up and figured it out after only a few tries.

I attempted again, and finally figured out how to do it, but not how to do it well.  The bartender laughed and said ‘you’re going to need to work on that and smooth out the transition’.

It probably would have been a little easier without the glass and a half of wine.

But they sent me home with 2 corks to practice with, and it might be worth figuring out how to do it well, because once again there was a huge group of mostly guys standing around watching the trick.
