Day 56: The joys of refrigerator shopping

From wedding dresses, to refrigerators, my what a difference a day makes.

Dreams of shopping for a trip to Italy have quickly been replaced by new necessity… not exactly what I planned on doing less than 2 months before my 40th birthday yet here I am.

It’s not something I can procrastinate which is good and bad.  Good because it forces me out of my comfort zone and forces me to be a little more impulsive…. bad because I have to drop a few hundred bucks instead of shopping for a trip for my birthday.

I immediately set out to the store after work.  My first stop is a local shop that I’ve heard always gives a great deal, in fact, I probably didn’t need to even look anywhere else.

I walked in, browsed around, asked some questions and got a good feel for what I needed to do.  I wasn’t ready to buy and I had to act on the little voice in my head which said ‘shop around make sure you get a good deal’.

So I immediately went down the road to the electronics store to see what kind of prices they had to offer.  Surprisingly they were competitive, which just added more indecision to the process.

A sales person came up and asked me if he could help.  I explained my situation and we went to work, at one point someone else asked him a question and I got the impression his shift was ending.

I felt so bad because I couldn’t make a decision.  I offered for him to pass me off to someone else if he needed to, but he wouldn’t budge.

At one point I even said, ‘I’m so sorry, I’ll bet you’re really wishing you hadn’t started talking to me at the end of your shift tonight.

He didn’t deny that was the case all he said was ‘after 8 days of working I have 2 days off coming up’  oops!  I can take a hint.

But I wasn’t about to be pressured into buying too quickly especially when I was spending that kind of money.

So after walking back and forth, pulling out my calculator, checking prices, and analyzing features I finally came to a decision.

It was one of the strangest purchases I have ever made.  It as a necessity but a very pricey one, and one I didn’t have a lot of opinions about, so I was very conflicted about it.

The entire process was enough to make me want a beer… then frustration set in after I realized there was no beer… or at least any cold beer at my home and I was going to have to wait 3 days until that was going to be a possibility.

I guess that means it’s time to break out the red wine…. cheers!
